About:
Rotary Haenertsburg will be hosting the Makgobaskloof Plunge on Saturday 18th November 2023, which includes our famous 42.2km and a 21.1km.
The 42.2km is run from Haenertsburg to Tzaneen with a total ascent +- 472m and descent of +- 1013m. After a 2 km warm-up around the village the route joins the R71 eastbound starting with a 3 km climb. You'll be running on the shoulder of the westbound lane, facing any oncoming local traffic. After a further 8 km of ups and downs the course descends Makgobaskloof in 6 km to the Lowveld where you will find a 9 km stretch which is just as undulating as the mountain. Although the climbs ease off for the remaining 14 km of the route on the R71, R36 and streets of Tzaneen, you will find this race to be a taxing experience when combined with the Lowveld summer temperature and humidity. We will have 15 water points, the first 11 of which will be at intervals of 2.6 to 3.6 km followed by 4 tables spaced 2.3 to 1.0 km apart. There will be a few field toilets at the start of each course and several single toilets at intervals along the route.
